UPCOMING EVENTS
The Unquiet Professional continues to look for ways to support the military community while working to bridge the gap between our military and civilian populations. The more we recognize the differences and similarities, the easier it will be to support each other. One way we encourage connection is through our annual events that are open to all. We hope you’ll join us!
Planning for the Unexpected
The “Planning for the Unexpected” program aims to empower and equip military families with the essential skills and resources needed to navigate the uncertainties of life ensuring both family and financial readiness. While providing tips to secure assets this training also addresses hard conversations intended to secure the family legacy. Partnering with List & File (an Army spouse business) we customize inserts not publicly available to guide families in creating their LIFE Binder™. This binder and training is also meant to help the command assist the family in times of need.
We are grateful to USAA Educational Foundation and Newrez for supporting this program!
"Planning for the Unexpected: Life Binder Training is an essential training for all military couples. Krista’s experience brings a unique and personal touch that adds invaluable insight into the hard topics that need to be discussed. Supporting soldiers to be prepared not only in their professional life, but in their personal life as well, only enhances the success of that soldier within the unit. We highly recommend all SOF units provide this opportunity for their families."
-COL John D. Bishop and Heather Bishop.
Advocacy
Our founder, Krista Simpson Anderson has been blessed with many opportunities to advise, educate and advocate for military families within our government, nonprofits and the public sector. Serving on working groups for the Army and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), holding board positions with the USAA Advisory Panel and the Newrez Military Family Council as well as serving as the Gold Star Fellow for the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation. Krista also serves as a policy advisor for Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). In each space Krista is able to bring in her experience as a survivor and a military spouse to advocate for change.
Fresh Air Program powered by Reveille Outdoors
Our "Fresh Air" Program seeks to give the military member (active or not) an empowering outdoor experience where they can connect with others who may have experienced what they have as well as civilian supporters. So much of the emotional struggle our military members face is a loss of community. This program not only gets them outside in the fresh air, but works to reclaim that sense of community. Previous excursions have included fly fishing in Montana’s Bob Marshall Wilderness and hiking the John Muir Trail in California. These excursions are small groups with the participants taking an active role in the planning of the event.
Project Rebuild
Bringing the military connected community together to create, build and heal through woodworking. Participants have the opportunity to give back to others in need and learn new skills while helping with local projects. Project Rebuild has helped community members rebuild after fires, supported building needs for local schools and more.
Family Support
Our family support program attempts to fill gaps between the support and programs under the Department of Defense and those of other Non Governmental Organizations. Providing healthy and empowering opportunities to our military connected community in order to heal the wounds brought on by war.
Running & Race Program
The Unquiet Professional supports race programs that provide surviving families the opportunity to come together, find camaraderie and celebrate the lives of their fallen service member. Windy 25's 5K is an example of the programs and events we support.
Youth Events
Through sponsorship and partnership, The Unquiet Professional supports engaging, outdoor activities for Gold Star and Surviving Youth. Opportunities like the Gold Star Sailing Program and the Force Blue Team Ocean Conservation School. These programs seek to empower and celebrate the children of our nation’s brave men and women.
Hands On!
Our Hands On! program provides children’s museum memberships for Gold Star and Surviving families. Kicked off by the Hands On Children’s Museum in Olympia, WA, more than 30 children’s museums in the Pacific Northwest now offer FREE membership to Gold Star & Surviving Family Members. In a time in their lives they can't control, children's museums can provide opportunities for our Gold Star and Surviving children to take ownership of their play while engaging in activities that promote innovation and authentic learning experiences. If your local children's museum is not within this program we will reach out and request membership.
